Iconic Movie Lines That Are Often Misquoted

#27: Apocalypse Now (1979)

Misquote: “I love the smell of napalm in the morning. It smells like victory.”

Real quote: “I love the smell of napalm in the morning. It smells like… victory.”

A big part of quoting movies understanding the right place to pause and provide emphasis in a sentence. It might not seem like a big deal when quoting movies to place emphasis on different parts of a quote, but it can seriously screw up an iconic line. Take Apocalypse Now, for example; the pause before the word victory is often left out, but it is integral to the delivery of the line.
