#2: Forrest Gump
Misquote: “Mama always said, ‘Life is like a box of chocolates.’”
Real Quote: “Mama always said life was like a box of chocolates.”
Okay, this one isn’t that bad, as the misquote is not all that different from the original. But the actual quote makes more sense, when you think about it. Since his mother has passed away, Forrest would be speaking in past tense and recounting what his mother used to tell him. Even old Forrest knows past tense.
Honestly, this quote never made too much sense to me: “You never know what you’re gonna get.” Most boxes of chocolates I’ve bought have a paper that tells you exactly what’s inside. Maybe back in the day, chocolate makers liked a little mystery.
