Iconic Movie Lines That Are Often Misquoted

#11: King Kong

Misquote: “T’was beauty that killed the beast.”

Real Quote: “It was Beauty killed the Beast.”

When King Kong falls to his death, Carl Denham says this iconic line when a policeman says that the planes killed Kong. But people misremember the line a little bit. The misquote, saying “T’was,” gives the line a poetic feel, while the actual quote, excluding the word “that,” also gives it a poetic feel. Either way, poor Fay Wray is getting scapegoated.
