Burning Dolls on NYE

Earlier, we talked about how Cubans celebrate New Years’. They toss dirty mop water onto the streets to introduce clean energy into their homes. But how do Cubans celebrate NYE? While many of them party in public areas and clubs with their friends, the more traditional Cuban families stay at home to burn dolls.

Why set a child’s plaything ablaze, you ask? According to tradition, a doll symbolizes regrets and bad memories, which begs the question: do young girls play with dolls in Cuba? Anyway, setting a doll on fire is supposed to reduce the amount of negativity in your life.
