Santeria
Similar to many of its Latin American neighbors, the most popular religion in Cuba is Catholicism. You’ll see images of Mother Mary everywhere, and a majority of the people give their blessings and pray to her for good health and fortune. The next most popular religion is Santeria, which you’ve probably never heard of.
Don’t feel bad, we didn’t know about it, either. Apparently, Santeria originated in Africa in the 19th century. African slaves brought to Cuba maintained their religion, and their descendants still practice it today. If you see a person wearing all white—a symbol for purity—odds are they’re a follower of Santeria.
