Highest Flamingo Count in the Western Hemisphere
One kind of animal that you might get tired of seeing while visiting Cuba is flamingoes. These long-necked, pink-colored birds can be spotted in huge flocks all over the country. There are reportedly 70,000 nesting flamingos in Cuba with countless chicks, making the island country home to the largest flock of flamingos in the entire western hemisphere.
If you want to catch a glimpse of these semi-flightless birds, just head on over to the Rio Maximo Wildlife Reserve. Did you know that Caribbean flamingos get their distinct pinkish hue from eating algae and shrimp? Also, did you know that their super-tiny eyes are actually larger than their brains?
