Transgender Rights
Since the country became its own independent nation up until about 2007, the trans community was pretty much shunned all over Cuba. Earlier, we explained that cross-dressing was kept out of the public’s eye, but today, the LGBT community pretty much has the same rights as everyone else.
In fact, a government-run program’s primary goal is to preserve the dignity and freedoms of trans. It even went as far back as 1979 when over 120 people wished to undergo sex changes. A mere nine years later, the first successful sex-change operation was performed in Cuba. Like everywhere else, unfortunately, there’s a bit of a social stigma regarding the LGBTQ+ community, but hopefully, that’ll come to pass over time.
