Late to the PC Game
Like other countries that are cut off from the rest of the world, Cuba was late to join the PC game. Back in the 1990s, immediately after the Soviet Union fell apart, Fidel Castro imposed a law that forbade Cuba’s private citizens from owning computers. If you brought a computer into the country, it was confiscated at the airport.
At the time, only businesses and government buildings could own computers. Fast-forward to 2008 and the ban on owning PCs was lifted. So, this is the reason why there aren’t very many pro e-sport athletes from Cuba, if any.
