Where Christopher Columbus Landed
You probably heard about Christopher Columbus back in grade school. He was a Spanish sailor who got the OK to travel westward to India, but he wound up landing in the Americas. That didn’t stop him from calling it the Indies, though, and thus, Native Americans were called Indians.
Anyway, do you know where his original landing point? You guessed it: he landed in one of the Caribbean islands and spotted Cuba from a distance. He thought Cuba was China because his geography was terrible. How he managed to trick Spanish investors into funding his travels, we’ll never know.
