How to Welcome the New Year
How do you celebrate New Years’? You probably party hardy with a group of close friends and await the fireworks show. Of course, that’s only if you have the willpower to stay awake past 10 PM. In Cuba, they celebrate New Years’ in a more practical manner.
On December 31st of every year, Cuban families will work together to clean their homes from top to bottom. Right as the clock hits 12 AM, they’ll take the bucket of dirty water and toss it out onto the streets. This gesture supposedly symbolizes how they want to start the new year with clean energy.
