Gitmo
If there’s one place you shouldn’t visit while traveling to Cuba, it’s Guantanamo Boy. The naval base houses some of the world’s most dangerous criminals, though many of those still awaiting trial could possibly be innocent. You probably know what sort of shenanigans our government gets involved in, don’t you?
Anyway, what’s fascinating about Gitmo is that the US government doesn’t own the land that it’s built on. We’re actually leasing it from the Cuban government and have been doing so since 1903. When Fidel Castro took charge, he never cashed any of the $4,000 checks that we paid to keep Gitmo running.
