Sounds a bit strange but during the last execution using a guillotine took place In France, the movie Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope was already playing in theatres for 4 months. The guillotine was perceived to be a humane way of carrying out executions and was rightly adopted by king Louis XIV in France.
The notoriously famous guillotine was used in France for more than 200 years. Reportedly, the last capital punishment by guillotine took place on 10th September 1977 while Star Wars premiered on May 25, 1977.
