The Second World War and Former Slaves
The Second World War formally began in 1938, but America was not concerned until 1941. The Emancipation constitution was drafted by Abraham Lincoln in 1863, and when the Thirteenth Amendment was adopted in 1865, slavery was judicially made illegal.
As a result, many former slaves would have been in their late 70s or early 80s before America had become an active member of the Second World War.
