#2: The Great Pyramid of Khufu, Egypt
The Great Pyramid of Khufu does not need decoration to intimidate anyone. Its scale handles that. Built on the Giza Plateau as the tomb of a pharaoh, it remains the last surviving wonder of the ancient world and one of humanity’s most stubborn architectural feats. The interior is surprisingly austere compared with the exterior’s ambition. That almost makes it stranger. A mountain was built for one dead king.
