#12: (Don’t) Wish I Was in Dixie
if you have followed US current events in recent years, you may have learned that there are some hard feelings, shall we say, involving the Confederate flag—the flag of the South during the American Civil War, which some people still like to fly. If you ask people who like flying the flag, they’ll often try to talk about “the Southern way of life” and “states’ rights.” if you ask people who aren’t in favor of the flag, they will point out that the way of life and the rights being defended are values the country no longer supports.
But the maker of this meme would like to point out that maybe the Confederate States of America should be remembered for what is perhaps the most important thing they did: surrender, so that innocent soldiers on both sides of the Civil War could stop dying violently. Well, there’s also a chance that the maker of this meme just wanted to make fun of the South. But I choose to take the more positive view.
