#4: Guatemala Syphilis Experiments (1946–1948)
Between 1946 and 1948, U.S. researchers secretly infected prisoners, soldiers, and patients in Guatemala with s*xually transmitted diseases to test treatments. Led by Dr. John Cutler, the experiments were conducted without proper consent and remained hidden for decades. They were uncovered in 2010, prompting a U.S. government apology. The studies are now considered one of the clearest examples of research abuse.
