Okay, so some of you may argue that the cheeseburger was not a life-changing invention, but we beg to differ. Sure, it wasn’t life-chancing in the same way as plastic or stainless steel, but where would we be today without cheeseburgers?

If it hadn’t been invented by mistake in the 1920s, we’re pretty sure it would still have been invented eventually. But still, the first cheeseburger was an improvisation. One cook accidentally burned the burger he was making and felt he couldn’t serve it this way. Rather than throwing it out and starting over, he figured he’d cover the burned burger with a slice of cheese—and the customer was delighted.
