#20: We All Scream for Ice Cream (Cones)
In 1904, at the St. Louis World’s Fair, Arnold Fornachou didn’t realize he was about to revolutionize ice cream consumption. His journey wasn’t about aiming for discovery; it was about adapting to circumstances with ingenuity, a reminder that not all innovations come from meticulous planning but, sometimes, from the need to improvise.
Fornachou’s innovative moment came when his supply of paper cups dwindled. Desperate, he turned to Ernest Hamwi, his neighboring waffle vendor, and together, they created a new way to enjoy ice cream. By molding waffles into cones, Arnold Fornachou inadvertently sold what is widely acknowledged as the first ice cream cones, marking a tasty turn in culinary history.
