#13: Nutella
In 1925, a creative pastry chef from Turin, Italy, crafted a delicious alternative to chocolate tailored for workers seeking a sweet lift during their lunch breaks. This innovative concoction combined cocoa with crunchy Gianduja hazelnuts, quickly becoming a favorite across various demographics. Despite its initial solid form, Ferrero aimed at a younger demographic, intending to create a softer, more spreadable option.
The iconic Nutella debuted from the Ferrero factory in Alba, Italy, on April 20th, 1964. Unfortunately, Pietro Ferrero, the genius behind Nutella, didn’t live to witness his creation in its now-famous form or market introduction. However, his legacy was carried on by his son, Michele, who fulfilled his father’s vision by perfecting and releasing Nutella to the world, ensuring the sweet spread captured hearts globally.
