#6: Fort Bhangarh – India
Fort Bhangarh, in Rajasthan, has a story that starts with ambition and ends with a curse. In the 16th century, Raja Madho Singh built the fortified town complete with temples, markets, and a palace. Then everyone vanished, leaving it to crumble. Local legend blames a tantric named Sinhai. The story goes he fell hard for Princess Ratnavati. When she refused him, he cast a spell on oil meant for her, hoping magic would win her heart. She saw through the trick and dashed the oil to the ground, humiliating him. Enraged, he cursed the town: it would be destroyed, and no soul would ever live there again. The curse supposedly came true when rivals sacked Bhangarh. Today, India’s Archaeological Survey protects the site, but the ruins still draw visitors.
