#4: Eating Behind the Wheel and Its Real Risks
Many road trips used to involve a paper map, a thermos, and something wrapped in wax paper being passed around the car. Eating on the move is still common, and there usually is not a law whose only purpose is to prohibit taking a bite of a sandwich while driving. Distraction laws are where the trouble can begin. Looking down to unwrap food, reaching for something that fell between the seats, or reacting to a spilled hot drink takes attention away from traffic, sometimes for longer than we realize.
