#19: Max Headroom Coke Campaign (1986-1987)
Max Headroom was a 1980s character who was all computer-generated. At least, that’s what he was marketed as. In truth, he was played by Matt Frewer, and several special effects were used to make him look like CGI. While the character was meant to be a parody of youth pandering, he ironically was used to promote New Coke.

“C-c-catch the wave,” Headroom would say in his iconic stutter. But even Headroom could not make New Coke happen. His ad campaign was discontinued in 1987, the same year someone dressed up as Max and hijacked two Chicago stations’ signals. The late ‘80s were certainly a time to be alive!
