#13: Altoids Sours
Altoids Sours abandoned the brand’s breath-mint seriousness for intensely tart hard candies sold in round metal tins. Tangerine became the legendary favorite, although citrus, mango, apple, and raspberry also inspired devotion and damaged tongues. Mars discontinued the line in 2010 because demand had declined. Independent companies later created convincing spiritual successors, including Retro Sours, though none are officially Altoids. The original tins now sell online for prices suggesting empty packaging has become an investment category.
