It’s pretty common for people in Vietnam to commute with a bicycle or motorbike. The streets are so narrow and crowded that there’s barely any space for vehicles, and motorcycles just make more sense as an effective means of transportation.

In the U.S., though, the streets are pretty much built for vehicles, not to mention the long distances some people have to travel on a daily basis. So, in the U.S., people commute by car because they have no choice. It’s also a cultural thing, which may be why this person experiences this cultural shock.
