When you must seek medical treatment, depending on the country, the first thing that comes to mind is “Can I afford this?”. Medicine isn’t cheap in countries where the cost of living is much higher. If you decide to move abroad, you might be surprised at how the prices of the same medicine can vary.
An American couple moved to the Netherlands. Shortly after they got there, his wife needed to refill a prescription. She was sensitive to the binding agents in generic medicine brands and specifically requested the name. Upon picking up her prescription, without insurance to cover the more expensive brand, she was relieved to find out it was much more affordable than it was in the U.S.
