Rock bands have never met a song they didn’t want to mess with. Whether it’s a tender ballad blasted through a wall of guitars or a blues number draped in swagger, rock covers crank up the drama, add a little feedback, and sometimes flip the meaning entirely. One thing’s certain: once rock gets a hold of a song, it never sounds the same again and this list is filled with rock covers you should try again.
#1: Guns N’ Roses – “Live and Let Die” (Original: Paul McCartney & Wings)
Paul McCartney’s version of “Live and Let Die” had that James Bond edge, complete with orchestral flair and dramatic shifts. When Guns N’ Roses took it on in the early 90s, they stripped out the polish and brought in pure firepower. Slash’s guitar cut straight through, and Axl Rose leaned into the theatrics like it was written for him. McCartney himself said he enjoyed their take, which is about the highest seal of approval a band could hope for.
