#4: Frida Kahlo
As some may know, Frida Kahlo used her art to process deep physical and emotional pain. At 19, she painted Self-Portrait in a Velvet Dress in 1926 to win back a boyfriend after a terrible bus accident. The elegant style showed a clear inspiration from classic Italian masters. Her final work, Viva la Vida, Watermelons, arrived in 1954 just eight days before her death. The celebration of Mexican life features red fruit.
