Mary Cassatt fought hard to find her place in a male-dominated art world. In 1872, she presented Two Women Throwing Flowers During Carnival. It was a traditional Italian scene that secured her acceptance into the prestigious Paris Salon. The Crocheting Lesson (1913) also showed her signature focus on maternal bonds. Soon after, her career came to an end due to cataracts and complete blindness.
