There’s no mouse hole if you can’t see it
Dimmed lighting at a restaurant creates an atmosphere of warmth, comfort, and exclusivity. However, the main reason fine-dining restaurants do this isn’t because they want to appear classy. They do it because there are probably mouse holes all over the place. That’s right, Tom is running around the restaurant and probably trying to nab cheese off of your plate.
We know what you’re thinking: don’t restaurants have to adhere to strict health and hygiene laws? Yes, they do, but most of them do so only when a food safety officer comes around. For the rest of the year, restaurants are just as gross as our homes and apartments, if not more.
