The Oldest Excuse in the Book
“The dog ate my homework” has got to be the oldest excuse in the book. It’s so old, in fact, it dates back to 1905 when it first appeared on paper in the magazine The Cambrian. So, naturally, when people use that as the reason why they fail to hand in homework or paperwork, it is hard to take them seriously.

This excuse is most commonly used by schoolchildren, so it’s even harder to believe when it comes from an adult practicing law! However, as a dog owner, I know how much my dog loves chewing paper (she’s ruined more than one book in the house), so I’m inclined to believe this guy.
