Later, the attorneys can use this to show that they’re making logical steps to reach the answer in order to convince the judge and jury of their argument. It’s a pretty systematic process, and you can’t blame them for trying. Plus, sometimes witnesses will fumble and say the wrong thing, ruining their credibility.
