Honestly, I feel sorry for this lawyer. What they were trying to say in this question is pretty obvious, and it’s not their fault that the witness was so utterly ridiculous. It must be very frustrating having to deal with people like this on a daily basis in the courtroom!
Bizarrely, there’s a phenomenon known as the Dunning-Kruger effect, which essentially means that the smarter you think you are, the more likely you are to be stupid. Judging by this witness’s responses, they probably think they’re pretty smart – you know what that means in reality! They should just stick to their day job.
