Hasty pudding
We’ve all had days when we don’t really have time for breakfast, but we have to eat something. This isn’t just a modern problem, but one the colonists faced too. One possible solution they had was hasty pudding, which could be whipped up quickly on a cold morning.
Made from corn or wheat flour, mixed with milk or water into a thick batter, it looks a little like porridge or the Italian polenta. It would be eaten warm and would set up your friendly local colonist for a hard day’s work. The name comes from its speed, and also the fact that it was quite cheap to make.
