Eel pie
If you’ve ever spent any time in North West England, then you may have been treated to the delicacy that is jellied eel. To be honest, it’s an acquired taste, even for the locals. For our colonial forebears, however, the eel was considered one of the most desirable meats out there.
In New England, fishermen would use lobster as bait to catch eel to sell as food. That seems pretty backward to me. I’d much rather have lobster than eel on my plate any day. New Englanders would put the wriggly fish in a pie, though, and it was quite the delicacy.
