Stewed swan
Whilst over in the United Kingdom, all swans technically belong to the Queen (who is traditionally the only one allowed to eat them), for American colonists they were a great dinner option. Swan would be served roasted, or in stews, and one swan would provide a lot of meat for a family.
Historical records show that, by the early 1700s, swan meat wasn’t as popular as it had been, but where the birds congregated, hungry settlers would still hunt them down. Perhaps this could be the next big thing for Thanksgiving dinner?
