Peas porridge
Familiar to us all because of the nursery rhyme, you might not actually know what pease porridge is. Made from boiled legumes (such as peas), and a little boiled bacon to add some flavor, this thick and filling stew was very popular during colonial times.
If you’re looking for something that would give you the same experience, then split pea soup is very similar in cooking method and taste to the historical dish. It would have been kept warm on the stove for days and dug into each mealtime.
