#13: Bette Davis and Harmon Nelson

Bette Davis was a dramatic and very popular actress, and Warner Bros. wanted to market her as an independent woman. Her 1932 marriage to her high school sweetheart, bandleader Harmon Nelson, didn’t fit that picture. The studio disliked the union and constantly omitted Nelson from her press tours and public photos. The marriage ended in 1938, but for most of it, the studio pretended her husband simply didn’t exist.
