#3: Time to Make the Donuts (Dunkin’ Donuts, 1980s-1990s)

These commercials starred a character named Fred the Baker, played by the late Michael Vale. He would wake up, leave home, and say, “Time to the make the donuts,” then come back and say, “I’ve made the donuts.” Then he’d do it again, as Dunkin’ made fresh donuts twice a day.

This commercial caught on, and we’d say it whenever we left for our jobs, donuts or not. When they finally retired the character in 1997, Dunkin’ even held a parade in his honor and gave everyone free donuts. Also, this is probably why you can never find fresh donuts in Dunkin’ anymore. There’s no dedicated employee like Fred.
