#11: I’d Like to Buy the World a Coke (Coca-Cola, 1971)
In the early ’70s, the desire for world peace was still prevalent. Hence, Coca-Cola made a memorable commercial where a diverse group of young men and women sang a version of the song “I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing (In Perfect Harmony)” on top of a hill in Italy. It envisioned a world where everyone would be as equals all united under a sugary drink. It was remade several times and was even the last scene in Mad Men, implying that Don Draper was behind it. I know he’s a fictional character, but thanks, Don, for the earworm.
