#20: Space: 1999 (1975)
We have finally returned to the weird world of British TV with Space: 1999, which aired from 1975 to 1977. As you probably figured it, it takes place in 1999, with the creators thinking that in 20 years and some change, we’d be on a moonbase. After some nuclear waste stored on one side of the moon explodes, the moon and its inhabitants get flung into space.
As cheesy as it sounds, the series is full of unique and scary monsters. One example is Cellini’s Dragon, an eldritch horror consisting of pure light and tentacles. It’s garnered a following, with fan films and attempts to revive it. For example, one planned reboot was Space: 2099. If that comes out, I can’t wait for some snarky writer to make fun of it in 2124. Full episodes of the series are on YouTube in glorious HD.
