After failing to keep up with online shopping and being outdone by other decor retailers, Pier 1 declared bankruptcy in 2020 and closed all of their stores. The biggest issue for this store was that they decided to shutter their online store in 2007 which ended up being a monumental mistake. Pier 1 has since opened an online store where you can buy furniture, decor, and lighting, though it doesn’t feel the same as walking through aisles of satiny decorative pillows and candleholders.
