Richard Branson – Necker Island
It is imperative that Necker Island, the private island that Richard Branson, the founder of Virgin, owns, be included on this list. At the age of 28, the English businessman agreed to build a resort on the uninhabited island after he purchased it. The resort was to be completed within four years.
Richard Branson spent approximately $10 million transforming Necker Island into a luxury resort after purchasing the island for a total of $120,000. The luxurious location has played host to a plethora of A-list celebrities, including Princess Diana and Nelson Mandela, to name just two. In 2007, Branson purchased Mosquito Island, a nearby barrier island, for his private collection.
