George Reeves
The part of Superman in the 1950s TV series, The Adventures of Superman, was George Reeves’ big break in the tough world of acting. Despite his growing fame, George put his acting career on the backburner in order to focus on larger global issues by entering the US Army.
He aspired to be more than a fictional man of steel during WWII and longed to be a real man of action and honor. However, instead of serving on the battlefield, the army assigned him to acting tasks. George became a member of a special theatrical unit that created multiple educational films about the hazards of sexual diseases.
