F. Scott Fitzgerald
Fitzgerald has gone down in history as one of America’s greatest writers. When WWI broke out, he left Princeton and, without hesitation, enlisted in the military, waiting to be sent out of Fort Leavenworth. He hadn’t given up on his goal of being a successful writer, so he spent his free time working on his writings while waiting for news from command in the hopes of leaving a legacy, even if the war took his life.
Fortunately, just as he was due to be transferred, the armistice was struck in 1918. The Great Gatsby, his most well-known work, is now considered a masterpiece of American literature.
