J.R.R. Tolkien
J.R.R. Tolkien was one of the most famous authors and poets. His most famous novels were The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings—two franchises that would earn billions of dollars at the box office. But before he put ink to paper as a profession, he served in the British Army during WWI.

He found himself in the midst of countless deadly battles, the most notable of which was the Somme. Due to his poor health, he had no choice but to leave the army. After being sent home, he contracted a fever due to a lice infestation that had left him incapacitated.
