Branston Pickle and Cheese Sandwich
Branston pickle is a jarred pickle chutney that was first made in 1922 in the village of Branston. It may look like the cucumber-based relish that Americans are used to but it actually has more depth and flavor to it. It’s made from diced vegetables like carrots, cauliflower, rutabaga, and onions and then pickled in a sauce made from vinegar, apples, tomatoes, and various spices.
People usually combine it with a slice of strong cheddar cheese and make a sandwich out of it. You can also serve it on crackers with a sliver of baked brie. The combination of savoriness and sweetness along with the spices makes it a delicious condiment!
