Stargazy Pie
Stargazy pie sounds almost magical and intriguing but your opinion will be quick to change once you see what this Cornish delicacy actually looks like. It is a baked dish made with pilchards (sardines), potatoes, and eggs, except it’s made in such a way that the fish heads jut out of the buttery crust so as to “gaze” at the stars or the diners.
There’s also a white sauce in the pastry and it’s seasoned with parsley and pepper. It sounds great but who decided to do that to the fish and why?! Apparently, it was created in Cornwall’s tiny port of Mousehole and is still made in the region every year for Christmas.
