55 Weird British Food Quirks the Rest of the World Can’t Wrap Their Heads Around

May 19, 2015 by Veronica Phillips

Welsh Rarebit

Originally called the “Welsh Rabbit,” this dish doesn’t feature any bunnies, we promise. It is basically like cheese on toast, except it’s fancied up to take it to the next level. Think melted cheese mixed with mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and paprika or cayenne pepper. This sauce is then poured over sturdy slices of toast and grilled to perfection.

Usually, it’s served with a few slices of cooked bacon. When it’s accompanied by a fried egg, it’s known as a “golden buck”. Sometimes, the sauce is blended with tomato soup to create a “blushing bunny.” No matter which style you choose, this snack is guaranteed to make your tummy smile.
