Scraps and Chips
The British love their batter so much, they will deep-fry anything with it – fish, sausage, a Mars bar! Heck, they will even eat leftover batter bits as they are. Aptly called “scraps”, these shards are left over in the deep-fryer once the fish is fried and is usually offered for free at most chip shops.
They are served with chips and some gravy and are pretty delicious! They’re also known as “dubs” or “bits” in Northern England and in the West Country, people refer to them as “gribbles.” Much to the disapproval of locals, some places are now trying to charge for them by adding a little something extra to it like chili flakes.
