Colin the Caterpillar Cake

It isn’t a birthday without a cake and in the UK, it isn’t a cake unless it’s a Colin the Caterpillar cake. Launched by British supermarket chain Marks & Spencer in 1990, these are chocolate sponge roll cakes filled with chocolate buttercream, covered in a chocolate shell,  and topped with milk chocolate beans.

His face is lovingly hand-piped and his feet are made of white chocolate. Apparently, it takes 38 people to assemble each cake and since its inception, M&S has produced more than 15 million Colin the Caterpillars! You can also get Colin’s girlfriend, Connie the Caterpillar, mini caterpillars, and an extra-large one as well!
